Using a drone to capture images and videos is a safe and cost-effective way to inspect your guttering or any other parts of a building at height.

Drones

Drones are unmanned aerial vehicles operated by a controller on the ground. When you attach a camera to a drone you can obtain images and videos from various angles high up.

Why are they Useful?

They make capturing images of objects that are high up much easier. For example, if you have a tall building with damaged guttering it is much safer and quicker to use a drone to take photographs of the damage. If a person has to climb a height there is always the risk of falling.
It’s much quicker to inspect damage with a drone because a drone inspection can be completed in around an hour. A traditional method of viewing at height means erecting scaffolding and walk boards. This in itself can take time to erect depending on the size of the building. You could be waiting a day or two for the scaffolding.
Drones with cameras are also useful because we use high resolution 4k HD which means all photographs and videos are crystal clear.

Are Drones Safe?

Using a drone immediately cuts out the risk of a person falling from a height. Our drones are licensed with the Civil Aviation Authority and we also have our own strict safety standards. Your near neighbours will be informed that a drone is to be used on your property so that they know what is happening when it is flying by.

Is it Cost Effective?

Yes. For example, if a building has damage guttering but you don’t where or how much damage has occurred you can erect scaffolding to allow a person to look at the damage from above. Because you don’t know where the damage lies, you will have to erect scaffolding all around the building so that the inspector can look at the guttering around the whole building. If you use a drone you can quickly find out where the damage is and then the scaffolding will only need to be erected in that one area when the time comes to repair the damage, saving time and money.

Can a Drone get Images Traditional Photography can’t?

Yes. A small drone can take photographs and capture video images at angles which aren’t possible with traditional photography. Drones are also useful for 360-degree video images which can be useful to get any damage in context.

What Do You Do on a Typical Inspection?

A day or two before the inspection we do an inspection of the area to make sure it is safe for a drone to be in the air. After that we let any neighbours know what we intend to do. On the day of the inspection we attach our camera to the drone and send it up to take various pictures and different angles. We then bring it down and attach a video recorder and repeat the process but this time making a video recording. We fly as close as we can to the guttering and pinpoint any areas of damage. The pictures and the video are then edited and sent to the insurance company. Sometimes a representative from the insurance company comes along to the inspection and watches the video on live stream from our vehicle.
