DJI Mavic Air Drone Review

The DJI Mavic Air Drone was released in January 2018 and is an entry level drone below the DJI Mavic range but with features above the DJI Spark range.  It features all the technologies of the other drones that DJI offer but in a more budget and smaller drone allowing you to easily carry anywhere.

DJI Spark Drone Specifications

The DJI Mavic Air drone has some impressive specifications for such a budget price and size.  Firstly it has all the same features as other drones that use the DJI Go 4.0 app including Active Track, TapFly and Terrain Follow.

It is compatible with DJI Goggles and also has new features such as QuickShot flight modes what at the moment are exclusive to the DJI Spark, these include.

ROCKET – Ascend with the camera pointing downward, revealing a unique perspective from above.

DRONIE – Fly backward and upward, with the camera locked on your subject, creating an epic shot that captures the big perspective of the world around the subject.

CIRCLE – Keeps the subject locked in the center of the frame, as the Spark automatically flies a circle around it.

HELIX – Starts close to the subject before flying up, away, and around in larger and larger circles.

One new impressive features is the 32MP Sphere Panoramas which was added in addition to the horizontal, vertical and 180 panoramas.  The Mavic Air drone can take 25 photographs and can also stitch them together, this is amazing when viewed with the DJI Goggles.

DJI Mavic Air Drone Camera

The DJI Mavic Air drone has a very impressive camera for the size of drone.  Its better than the DJI Spark but not quite as good as the DJI Mavic Pro or DJI Phantom 4 Pro series.  The best quality is 4K at 30fps / 100 Mbps video and it can also record in slow motion video at 1080p with an amazing 120fps.  The 1/2.3″ 12-megapixel CMOS sensor has an f/2.8 lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length.  Please watch the below video where the quality is shown and compared.

Would we recommend the DJI Spark Mini Drone?

Yes Rising View would recommend the DJI Mavic Air drone as with all other DJI products.  Personally for us this is only a toy but still we might buy on in the future as its much more powerful than the DJI Spark but also much more portable than the DJI Phantom series.  We would mainly use this as a drone to carry everywhere to capture shots on the fly or when travelling on holiday.  You can purchase the DJI Mavic Air on the offical DJI site.
