Task: Roof Inspection & Survey – Provide a roof inspection and survey using a drone for a complex roof on an old mansion with turrets and many chimneys in Montrose, Scotland. The purpose of the inspection was to provide developers of the old property an idea of the overall condition of the roof so they could plan the repairs of any damaged areas. The drone was able to do this cheaper than traditional methods such as scaffolding and cherry-pickers and able to get different angles and hidden areas that that would not be possible without a drone.

Roof Inspections Using A Drone
Inspect, survey, save money repairing your roof with drone photography by Rising View.
Roof inspections by drone are a safe and fast method of surveying a damaged roof. Here at Rising View drone photography, commercial companies, residential owners, and insurance agents often contact us. They realise the benefits of completing a roof survey in Montrose, Scotland using drone photography. Much of the time, especially after a storm, a survey is required as an emergency, which we can provide.
Notice how we can obtain angles that would be difficult to capture using traditional photography. You can also see clearly where roof tiles need replacing and guttering is blocked.
Using traditional methods to climb onto the roof would mean erecting scaffolding around the whole building. This is extra expense. If they step onto the roof they may damage it further and they will not be able to see all the angles that the drone can view. Even with a cherry-picker you would need access which is not always available and again can not view from all angles the drone can. Aerial videos to inspect a roof is a cost-effective solution. Our service is safe, fast, efficent and can save you money.
Please read our BLOG about “When Using a Drone Can Save You Money” for more information.
When we are called out to a roof inspection in Montrose, Scotland and we start by taking images of the whole roof. We use high resolution 4K video to ensure excellent quality. This is to help give context to the close-up images and identify which area of the roof. Next, we take close-ups in a grid of the full roof top down and then more images of all sides at a 45 degree angle. We also capture images of any other parts of the building at height that may be damaged such as guttering, pipes or chimney stacks.
Once the inspection has been completed the video and/or photographs are edited and made ready for delivery. In an emergency the work can be done on-site for immediate access. The survey can also be viewed in real-time on location if required.
As well as inspecting commercial and residential roofs, we also provide a drone inspection and survey service for church spires and steeples. And, we can inspect solar panels. Drone photography for inspection purposes is the ideal way to assess damage at height.
Please read our BLOG about “Overcoming Dangers of Working at a Height” for more information.
Don’t forget drone photography is a great advertising and marketing tool. Roofing contractors can use drone photography videos on their websites to demonstrate what they do and how it is done. They can show before and after shots to their clients.

Safety First
One of the most important reasons for using drone photography at height is safety. Traditionally an individual or team would have to climb up to a damaged roof and take photographs or videos manually. This meant delays if it was too windy to make the climb or the risk of an individual falling.
Drone photography eliminates this risk. It is a safe method of inspection at height which can be carried out fast and without too much delay. We are licensed by the Civil Aviation Authority and we are covered by Public Liability Insurance.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is the national independent watchdog for work-related health, safety and illness which acts in the public interest to reduce work-related death and serious injury across Great Britain’s workplaces.
According to them, (in their guide of Working at Height) roof work is high in risk and states one of the most common causes of serious workplace injury to be falling through roofs. This can occur on roofs of factories, warehouses, farm buildings and such when repair work of the roof is being carried out.

Our emergency service means we can get to your location quickly and we can edit and deliver the photographs and/or videos to you on location. Not only are the inspections faster, safer and can provide photographs of hard to reach locations they are also far cheaper than traditional methods such as cherry pickers and scaffolding.
